Description
Augmentin 228.5mg/5ml Suspension by GSK is a broad-spectrum antibiotic presented as a dry powder for reconstitution into a 70ml oral suspension, making it ideal for babies, infants, and young children who cannot swallow tablets. Each 5ml dose of the prepared suspension contains amoxicillin 200mg and clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 28.5mg.
Augmentin combines two active ingredients: amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria, and clavulanic acid, which protects amoxicillin from destruction by bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases). This combination makes Augmentin effective against a wider range of bacteria than amoxicillin alone, including strains that have developed resistance to ordinary penicillins.
